For the fourth year in a row, Global Innovation Exchange is supporting the Solutions Summit at the UN General Assembly 2019. Sponsors for the UN Solutions Summit 2019 include H&M Foundation, Barclays, Google for Startups, and Ericsson. Solutions Summit is an annual catalytic gathering at United Nations Headquarters in New York during the UN General Assembly high-level week at the end of September. This initiative lifts up and advances the work of exceptional teams already developing innovative solutions that address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As part of the UN Solutions Summit, 10 social innovations have been selected to give a ‘lightning talk’ outlining their breakthrough efforts to an audience of policymakers who have the means to pave solid regulatory foundations, investors who care deeply about sustainable change and impact, industry leaders who are able to deploy quickly and at scale, fellow entrepreneurs who can share their experiences on starting up, and members of the general public, including youth, who bring additional creative insight.
The Solutions Summit 2019 website is powered by GIE Custom and the innovation profiles for all 10 selected solutions are also showcased here. For each winner on their innovation profile, the focus areas of their work are listed along with the geography in which they are being implemented. You can also see what stage they are at; ideation, R&D, proof of concept, a transition to scale, scaling or sustainable scale.
Each innovation profile on GIE serves as a “digital pitch deck” with basic information and key achievements about that innovation. They are owned and managed by the social entrepreneurs behind the innovation. These profiles serve as an easy way for entrepreneurs to get their innovation included in searches for funders or others looking to support these innovations as well as receive relevant funding alert emails.
As part of this partnership between the Solutions Summit and Global Innovation Exchange, starter innovation profiles were created even for those applicants who did not win using their application information. This is a great bonus for applicants to the Summit without any extra work on their part. This is part of GIE’s vision for a Universal Application to save valuable time currently spent filling out applications with identical questions for various opportunities.
There are nearly 13,000 innovations on GIE already so the GIE team works with partners to mark some information as “Verified” to help surface the most promising and validated innovations in the ecosystem. All the winners for the Summit have a Verified milestone on their profiles with this achievement which will help surface them to the top of searches.
