We engage short-term volunteers on long-term projects to create, nurture and sustain the wellbeing of the world's children - so they can realize the full promise of their human potential.
Area of Focus
In 1984, Global Volunteers helped lay the foundation for what became known a decade later as "volunteer vacations." Our short-term volunteer service opportunities focused on providing "helping hands" to community development programs in host communities abroad. Today, as a non-governmental organization (NGO) in special consultative status with the United Nations and UNICEF, Global Volunteers mobilizes up to 300 service-learning teams year-around to work in more than 100 host communities worldwide, and has gained national and international recognition as a leader in this field. As a private, apolitical, nonsectarian organization, Global Volunteers demonstrates how sustained, comprehensive "people-to-people" initiatives can succeed. We choose our host partners thoughtfully, and prepare our volunteers carefully. We request projects that can be directed by local leaders, evaluated frequently, and sustained over the long term.
Our areas of focus currently include provision of the 12 Essential Services: School and Household Games; Child Nutrition; Micronutrient Supplementation; Improved Stoves; Health, Nutrition and Hygiene; Education; Malaria Prevention; Deworming; HIV/Aids Education; General Education; Promoting Girl’s Education; Potable Water and Sanitation Facilities; Psychosocial Support
