Innovation Description

The USAID sponsored TPSS for girls program brought together 550 Palestinian and Israeli girls, as well as student leaders, parents, and coaches, over 6 years for in-depth peacebuilding and female empowerment through sport activities. As gender stereotypes often discourage girls and women from entering many social/professional fields, including sport, this program empowers young women to gain confidence and become leaders, breaking down barriers between Jews and Arabs, Israelis and Palestinians.
How does your innovation work?
For 15 years the Peres Center has engaged over 20,000 Arab and Jewish, Palestinian and Israeli boys and girls through the "Twinned Peace Sport Schools" (TPSS) program. This program utilizes inter-language learning and FairPlay, a comprehensive educational methodology utilizing sport to break down emotional barriers, create cross-cultural dialogue, and equip the younger generations with the tools to become constructive and influential leaders within their communities and the region. The USAID sponsored TPSS for girls program brought together 550 Palestinian and Israeli girls, as well as student leaders, parents, and coaches, over 6 years for in-depth peacebuilding and female empowerment through sport activities, which would not happen without this program. As gender stereotypes often discourage girls and women from entering many social and professional fields, including sport, this program empowers young women to gain confidence and become leaders, and breaks down barriers between Jews and Arabs, Israelis and Palestinians.
