TIFAT Uganda is a company that unites rural farmers and links them to various markets in urban centers. We buy organic produce from farmers and we sell them 30% cheaper than supermarkets/other stores since we eliminate long chain of middlemen, offer our farmers higher prices and convenient distribution to our customers. We find out what groups of customers or markets exist, their needs and their target markets. We also concentrate on what products the farmers might develop to meet the market needs and how the customers prefer to receive their produce. We advise our farmers accordingly on as to which crops are highly demanded and also put emphasis on the quantity and quality. We are currently dealing in rice, maize, beans and ground nuts. When farmers are done with harvesting, they transport produce to our storage facilities in the villages, here they are registered after weighing their produce and their membership cards signed showing quantity delivered. We then grade the produce, process for value addition, packing our customers most desired sizes and transport to our shops in the urban centers. We take care of the marketing and distribution and ensure a good return to our farmers.

Problem

Lack of ready access to direct markets for Farmer's agricultural produce. Lack of alternative market lines other than middlemen. Lack of access to storage facilities by many rural farmers given the large costs of hiring stores.

Solution

When farmers are done with harvesting, they transport produce to our storage facilities in the villages, here they are registered after weighing their produce and their membership cards signed showing quantity delivered. We then grade the produce, process for value addition, packing our customers most desired sizes and transport to our shops in the urban centers. We take care of the marketing and distribution and ensure a good return to our farmers.

Target Beneficiaries

Uganda is having a large number of restaurants, hotels, schools that are all in need of high quantity and consistent food supply. The population that is high and growing rapidly has also kept demand for our produce high and hence creates a large market.

Mission and Vision

Our company reaches out to small scale holder farmers at the grass root level who may not have the opportunity to transport their produce to urban centers. We have modern storage facilities at village levels and farmers deliver their produce to our collection points immediately as they harvest. This saves postharvest losses that come due to mishandling of produce and lack of storage facilities by farmers. We ensure high quality produce that we supply to our customers in urban centers.

Competitive Advantage

We grow our produce locally and organically which we produce at lower costs and be able to also price lower using price as our strongest asset. We keep a direct relationship with clients by making additional serving recommendations not only to increase consumption but to keep clients happy.

Planned Goals and Milestones

We are in the process of the company certifications to be able to export to the outside market. We are also looking to expand and get more commercial transportation chains and storage facilities to grow our farmer network to at least 600 farmers in the next 24 months.
