The Level Market (TLM)

The Level Market uses ecommerce to serve humanity, accelerate progress towards SDGs, & encourage innovation in humanitarian engineering. We do this specifically through our online marketplace & through Level Giving, our crowdfunding platform.

Stage 4: Transition to Scale

During the 18 months we ran TLM, people repeatedly asked if supplies could be purchased on behalf of a nonprofit. LG is the evolution of our mission to get relief supplies to people in need in a fast and transparent way using our existing tech

A lot of donors are concerned about simply giving money: How was their money used? When was it used? Did it actually help people? They feel uncomfortable asking these questions. With Level Giving, donors buy physical supplies that impact SDG outcomes that an organization has determined it needs like mosquito nets or blankets. The purchase is tracked and SDG impact is reported, giving donors peace of mind and confidence their money is being put to good use.

Ecommerce has benefited nearly every industry except ours. Our patent-pending quote technology, coupled with ecommerce principles can change that. In addition to offering an online marketplace where NGOs can find, source, compare, track, and purchase relief supplies we also offer this same technology applied to donations. Through the innovative use of tech, donors moved to support development initiatives can have confidence that their money is being used effectively and transparently.

Target Beneficiaries

The ultimate beneficiary of our goal to use ecommerce to serve humanity is those at the base of the pyramid. We aim to use tech for the many, not for the few. Ecommerce applied to procurement also benefits the millions of organizations working in the humanitarian sector, trying to source products they need to stem suffering and save lives. With Level Giving, donors also benefit because they know their money is being put to the best possible use.

Mission and Vision

Our mission is to build the Amazon of aid, where finding and buying a container of clean birth kits for use in Zambia is as easy as buying a book online. We envision a world where those working in the aid world can come to one central platform to find and compare all the relief supplies they need to effectively achieve their mission. Everyday we take steps towards making eprocurement accepted practice in our industry instead of endless emails, static paper catalogs, and excel spreadsheets!

Innovation Description

The Level Market (TLM) is a comprehensive online marketplace for aid and development products. TLM connects suppliers and buyers of life-saving products around the world, enabling suppliers to sell their products to aid buyers of all sizes and providing a one-stop-shop for buyers to find, compare, review, and purchase the goods they need. By enabling these transactions on an open platform, TLM brings transparency and efficiency to a previously opaque process, lowers costs, and speeds up the process of getting appropriate products to people in need.

Competitive Advantage

We were outraged by the institutional failings of the response to Puerto Rico and Hurricane Harvey. We had an existing solution that could be easily adapted to meet demands to donate relief supplies. We were in a position to stem suffering and save lives and could no longer stand by. Because our team has spent 30+ years in fundraising, aid and disaster relief in exec roles, we are uniquely qualified to launch and successfully scale this product-based crowd funding platform. We can also adapt our existing tech without having to rebuild it. Combining our prior knowledge of running an online humanitarian marketplace with a donation-based model, gives us unique insight and first-mover advantage. We also have strategic partnerships with 2 logistics companies, Flexport and iContainers, to provide greatly discounted shipping rates, as we know this is a huge bottleneck in procurement of relief supplies.

Planned Goals and Milestones

In April 2018, we are launching Level Giving. LG, run by The Level Market, is a crowd funding platform that enables people to purchase needed physical supplies and donate them to non-profits working to implement the SDGs. Donations are tracked from shopping cart to when used by the non-profit, bringing transparency to online giving. The impact is reported back to donors, exciting them about progress towards the SDGs.
