THE SOLAR FOOD FARM is a fully integrated solar hydrioponic farming unit. The farm is design to produce more with less using 85% Less Fresh Water, 10x Less Land, Less Labour Time, Zero Pesticides, and 3X Better and Healthy Yield. The Solar Food Farm consist of four(4) major component. The Solar System, this provide uninterpruted power supply to the farm which is used to power the LED Lights and the Nutrient Water Pumps. The LED Light, performs the same function as the sun, giving the plant 24 hours energy needed to grow. The Nutrient Water Pump, this serves as an irrigation system that carries the nutrient solution throughout the farming unit to the root of the crops. The Growing Medium, serves as a support system for the growth of the plant within the Solar Food Farm. The medium vary depending on the crop that is been grown within the system.

Problem

At TechFarm Institute we believe that Africa has all it takes to effectively feed it’s people so we’ve taken technology and combined it with crop production processes to combat Africa’s crop production problems. We aren’t just thinking business, we are also thinking about the people in our communities who need access to better sources of nutritious food. Our vechicle for effecting this change are the young people that live within this communities.

Solution

The solar Food Farm is designed to produce fresh healthy Food throughout the year no matter the climatic condition of the area. Another unique feature is that it can grow in any location either in the desert, land slide areas, oil polluted land and many more. this is basically due to the fact that no soil is involved in the crop growth. The Solar Food Farm being a controlled environment breaks the barrier of not being able to grow certain crops in some region because of soil condition.

Target Beneficiaries

Agriculture in Nigeria has remained unattractive to young people as a result of the failure to include technological advancement to the sector. Since unemloyment is one of the major issues affecting the Nigerian economy and its society, TechFarm presents a solution creating a spotlight where farming is made easier and more productive contradicting the initial idealogy of farming. There is no dout that through this process the power of young people or youth in Nigeria can be unleashed.

Mission and Vision

Our commitment is to improve crop production systems and empower as many young people through application of technological advancement to farming.

Competitive Advantage

Our TFI model ensures a WIN?WIN strategy for everyone involved in the process. For our young people “TechFarmers” the financing model allows them to pay as they harvest which translates to a net zero payment whereby our farmers get the farming unit with no initial payment. Our farmers after harvesting sell to off-taker partners at a discounted rate which enables the off-taker partners to sell to local communities at below market price. The TFI model ensures that the local community get fresh-nutritious food at affordable prices and our farmers getting a reasonable profit. Our farmers get to fully pay off for the farming unit in 2 years which also allows TechFarm to break-even.

Planned Goals and Milestones

After the successful implementation of the Solar Food Farm, at TechFarm Institute, we plan to develop the FarmFly;FarmFly is a Drone powered by AI to harvest crops like Oranges, Mangoes, etc. FarmFly reduces the stress of harvesting, and help farmers maximize profit through reduce labour and capital. The AI helps the drone recognize rip fruit or crops on the tree for harvesting and then the drone carefully cut the fruit off the tree in a careful process.
