Stage 3: Proof of Concept
Creating a space in participatory democracy for youth voices on the SDG Policy in Ireland that feeds into global partnerships
We ran a pilot SDG Stackholder workshop on the "SDGs through the lens of a Child" to have a unique government report that made recommendations on policy but also a process for having a youth focus and youth voices in policy making that feeds into our National SDG Stackholder Forum that would be interoperable with the UN Youth Forum and the UN HLPF meetings. Our youth now have institutions that allow a youth voice at home and globally. After the workshop a youth delegation of high school children presented the report to the UN Youth forum in April 2019. The Irish National Stackholder Forum has now formally set up a National SDG Youth Forum. Both are to be interoperable with global meetings of the HLPF and Sub-committees on Data, Finance, STI forum etc
Reform of Institutions at a national level to allow "whole of society" voices in government on SDG Policy seems straightforward but is not. Needs to be replicated across all nations to create effect SDG Global Partnerships.
