The blue economy has a lot of potential in Africa. In Kenya for example, one of the main challenges that limits potential of this industry is post-harvest losses. In some areas it’s up to 70% due to poor infrastructure. None of the landing sites have working modern mobile cold chain solutions. The fishermen use traditional methods to preserve the harvest. This often leaves consumers exposed to diseases and infections.
The Cold chain solution enables fish produce to be delivered at the correct temperature without any external power source (the solar power is used to provide the little power needed for the sensors). The solution can provide transparent and meaningful information to all stakeholders involved in the supply chain via smart cloud solutions and a tracking system. This enables the user to view the location and temperature of the cool box at any time, and remotely adjust the temperature as necessary.
