Stem borer causes economic damage to maize

Solution

Management of stem borers in maize Desmodium sp (Fabaceae) inside the field and Brachiaria sp. (Poaceae) outside the field are planted. Desmodium sp. repels stem borer moths and Brachiaria sp. attracts them. Eggs laid on Brachiaria hatch but the caterpillars do not feed and develop on this plant.

For push and pull technique to control stem borer in maize, Desmodium sp (Fabaceae) inside the field and Brachiaria sp. (Poaceae) outside the field are planted. Desmodium sp. repels stem borer moths and Brachiaria sp. attracts them. Eggs laid on Brachiaria hatch but the caterpillars do not feed and develop on this plant.
