In the Philippines, 1 in every 10 girls is already a mother. When a girl gets pregnant, they often don't realize it and they don't know what to do next. They don't know how to tell their family and teachers, when to go to the doctor and how to take care of themselves while expecting, and what to expect from the father of their child, and how to get help for medical expenses.



ParentUpmakes the process of getting additional information and support more comfortable and convenient with a mobile service that connects teen moms with nurses and volunteer parents. Through 1:1 confidential chats on SMS, the most pervasive communication channel to teen girls in the Philippines, we provide maternal and newborn health information and non-judgmental support.

Innovation Description

Timely Information

- Moms are sent weekly automated SMS messages based on theirpregnancy and postpartum stages.

PPD Screening

- Post-partum depression (PPD) screening questions are asked at specific milestones postpartum, and when moms exhibit risk behaviours.

Support Line

- Moms can text, message, and call for questions on maternal and newborn health, and service providers. Health professionals (e.g.nurses) will respond.
