As the number of students who are pursuing higher education increases in Africa, the level of unemployment is doing the same. Two hundred million people in Africa are currently unemployed. In Kenyan alone, over 7 million people are unemployed. 75% of Kenya’s population is also under the age of 30 years and 83% of this demographic interacts with the informal sector either temporarily or permanently. This creates a lot of unknowns about what the job market looks like and where to look for jobs.
Kenya’s smart phone penetration is now almost at 100% from about 44% in 2016. The three ways to ease the job challenge in the Africa are ; create new jobs, improve productivity and earnings of jobs in the informal sector and help connect the right people to the right jobs. Ogaan has set out to do two out of those three things, which area; connecting the right people to the right jobs and elevating the informal sector by setting a minimum rate for jobs posted on our platform.
