In Tanzania there is a significant lack of affordable, nutritious, and sustainable fish feed. Feed often accounts for 70% of a farmer’s costs, but manufactured feeds are not widely available. Most feed is therefore mixed onsite in small batches from local crops, which is both insufficient and nutritionally. This results into lower yield of fish, less competitive fish, lower sales indicating there is a clear and urgent need for a more sustainable and nutritious form of fish feed
NovFeed scientifically formulates and produces a new cost-effective fish feeds based on indigenous, locally produced, and sustainable ingredients such as macrophytes and maggots as high quality alternative to fishmeal and soy bean meal which are commonly used by other fish feed manufactures. Through our affordable fish feed fish grow to market size at reduced maturation time and at minimum production costs.
NovFeed targets fish farmers in Tanzania and other East Africa Countries where farmers encounter the same challenge.

Our competitors include medium-sized feed manufacturers in Tanzania or the East African region. These suppliers are either professional feed manufacturers (e.g. UgaChick in Uganda, Unga in Kenya, Skretting & Aller Aqua in Zambia) or other local fish feed producers that don’t have professional manufacturing knowledge and practices. We have developed solution to consistently deliver a high quality product at a competitive price that is 30% cheaper than our competitors. NovFeed is better in quality, taste and digestibility than competitors’ feed based on tests and trials conducted that demonstrate NovFeed results in superior weight gain and growth at minimum production cost.

The Team Behind the Innovation
Director of Operations, Mr. Otaigo Elisha, holds a Masters of Science in Environmental Economics, and is an expert in analyzing the economics of fish feed value chains. Managing Director, Miss Diana Orembe, holds a Bachelors of Science in Microbiology and is a research expert who specializes in feed microbiological analysis and quality assurance. Production Manager, Mr. Stephano Adrian Karoza, holds a Masters in Aquaculture Science and is a researcher on fish nutrition in farmed fish. IT specialist Mr. Michael holds a Bachelor degree in computer Science is an expert in collecting and utilizing big data in the feed industry.
