KAINO is a web and mobile application that is primarily used by teachers via the KAINOtab and delivers quality national curriculum-aligned teacher guides blended with a STEM approach, the American, British and Canadian curricula to suite the African child with 21st century learning content while following the national learning framework. Teachers access the system using the KAINOtab which is freely given to them on enrollment and can access a self-assessment progress bar, take both teacher and student attendance and view digitized textbooks without a need for internet data subscription.

Stage 4: Transition to Scale

We are currently running pilot tests in three different ECD schools as our focus to test our new in-house developed STEM blended content. These three schools are as follows; 1 in an urban area, 1 in a rural area and the other in a refugee camp.

Problem

Teachers in Uganda still lack good teachers’ guides and textbooks which in turn causes children to have poor subject notes and learn very little even though they are in school. Teachers don't have a progress tracking system to monitor and save their teaching progress and this leaves teachers disconnected to their students' overall learning progress. Today, many children are still highly inconvenienced by carrying many heavy text books to and from school causing health issues.

Solution

Our solution is primarily focused on the KAINOtab which teachers and students can use to access readily available quality teacher guides and read any book respectively at anytime, anywhere for over 2 weeks on a single charge 1. DIGITAL ACCESS to teacher’s guides 2. PROGRESS TRACKING for teachers & school administrator 3. REDUCED WEIGHT of school bags for students 4. FREE CONTENT access for all learners.

Target Beneficiaries

1. Schools (Target Customer): Well prepared teachers and cost effective administration

2. Teachers (Primary Product User):Learn best teaching methods from each other using the KAINOtab with training and support

3. Students (Primary Beneficiary):Proper academic content and reduced weight of school bags

4. Parents (End Beneficiary):Higher civil society participation, affordable digital textbooks and notes

Mission and Vision

a) Our vision: A leveled ground between rural and urban schools with increased access to low cost and high quality education content for learners in Africa. b) Our mission: We are on a journey to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all African children.

Competitive Advantage

Our main competitors are; BrainShare, Bridge International Schools, Kampala Smart Schools etc. Our venture’s greatest sources of competitive advantage is simply because we are the first to go to market with a public teachers’ guide platform for African pre-primary and primary schools. KAINO also provides the KAINOtab as the main delivery channel free of charge to our main product users – teachers and these tabs can last up to over two weeks on a single charge because of the E Ink technology of the screens which makes our system very scalable even to the most rural parts of Africa. They also don’t need internet data subscription because we use a reverse billing model with the ISPs. We have strong partnerships with content providers across Africa and Europe. The system has a digital user profile to help track teacher progress with a Geo-location feature to enable schools track teacher attendance. Easy to use, load a teacher guide in 3 easy steps.

Planned Goals and Milestones

We have so far built a web app as our prototype of the KAINO system and have implemented it in two primary schools in Uganda as our proof of concept. With a successful seed funding of US$100,000, we plan to conduct a scaling implementation plan of five schools in each of these countries; Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania and South Sudan. We also plan on getting manufacturing, distribution and sales agreements for the KAINOtab which is our main product channel with a leading telecom company.
