iTakeActions is a web platform built to mobilize and reward civic actions that contribute to removing barriers and improving access to quality education in Africa, starting with Nigeria.

Citizens register on the platform to report conditions of the schools in their communities, and take other civic actions lie share tweets, send emails, sign petitions, etc to draw attention to critical education issues. Each action would attract the platform's currency called ActBit Coins. These coins can be redeemed for rewards such as events’ tickets, free gifts, and sales discounts.

Problem

With over 65 million citizens who cannot read nor write despite finishing primary school, Nigeria's educational system is poor and deteriorating. According to UNESCO, Nigeria ranked 103 out of 113 in the 2015 Education for All Development Index, scoring 0.714. Dilapidated environments, insufficient learning resources, unqualified educators, and bad access roads, etc. are among the main factors shaping the system decay.

Solution

The iTakeActions’ platform aims to increase citizens’ participation in the advancement of public education in Nigeria. Through the platform, citizens can report what is working well and what is not working well in their various communities’ schools. Citizens will also be able to take simple civic actions like share tweets, send emails, sign petitions, etc. to demand for improvement in the education sector. Citizens can also directly support education initiative through the platform.

Target Beneficiaries

The platform is to help over 100 million Nigerians living below the poverty line to access quality education through public schools.
