Developed by speech-language pathologists and assistive technology specialists who specialize in treating people on the autism spectrum, InnerVoice incorporates AI, facial recognition technology, and video self-modeling to address the complex communication needs of people on the autism spectrum. Innervoice targets five areas related to language development: Neuro-Typical Development, Display of Affect, Joint Attention, Semiotics, and Spontaneous Speech. Using a unique and engaging UX/UI, InnerVoice models target skills in order to stimulate speech, language, and facial expression imitation in context (or mirror neuron activity associated with communication learning). InnerVoice uses a highly researched an effective teaching tool: video self-modeling. By watching themselves successfully perform a skill -- such as saying a word or making a facial expression -- users can learn from themselves within familiar environments such as homes, schools, or community areas.

Problem

Throughout the world, autism is on the rise. Children with autism struggle to learn social communication skills, which are crucial to emotional, vocational, social, and educational success. There are currently not enough trained professionals worldwide to address the growing population of children who need help developing communication skills. At this time, there is no cure for autism nor is there a known single cause of the condition.

Solution

InnerVoice is a highly researched communication learning app, which uses digital photographs to teach emotions, language, and social skills. By using a ground-breaking combination of facial recognition technology, AI, mobile technology, and extensive hands-on research by certified autism specialists, speech-language pathologists, and assistive technology experts, InnerVoice leverages the highly motivating mobile screens to teach people with autism how to communicate in the physical world.

Target Beneficiaries

Millions of people with autism throughout the world -- however, InnerVoice can address the needs of people with other challenges: selective mutism, dyslexia, developmental language delay, stroke, among others. InnerVoice uses a simple and highly engaging user interface, which broadens its appeal to a number of people with communication challenges.

Mission and Vision

By using InnerVoice, people with a variety of communication challenges can learn to share their wants, needs, thoughts, and feelings with others in their communities. By learning to communicate through speech, text, facial expressions, and emotions, people can release their inner potential and become productive and happy citizens within their respective communities.

Competitive Advantage

InnerVoice has been developed through extensive, hands-on user research. By receiving feedback and creative input from people with autism, their families, teachers, and professionals, InnerVoice addresses the real-world needs of people with autism -- and even other communication challenges such as developmental delays, selective mutism, dyslexia, and stroke (aphasia). InnerVoice's creators are themselves speech-language pathologists, certified autism specialists, and assistive technology experts who have tirelessly focused on the needs of end users: people with communication challenges. In addition, InnerVoice incorporates the most advanced AI technology offered by Microsoft's Azure platform in combination with advanced facial recognition, photo animation, and emotional speech prosody technology. InnerVoice is the only communication learning tool that incorporates AI and video self-modeling to teach speech, language, and social communication skills.
