We build and deploy clean energy systems that enable communities and families to live better lives. We join efforts with our network of partners, we constantly search for technological innovations and we make sure our systems are generating the most positive impact.

Green Social Bioethanol helps the world’s poorest rural communities to escape energy poverty and its complex outcomes by providing them with an innovative bioethanol micro-distillery with which they can produce their own fuel (ethanol 95ºGL up to 99,5ºGL).Its continuous system is very efficient and producing from 1,000 to 10,000 liters per day of sustainable ethanol from multiple locally grown ...

Green Social Bioethanol helps the world’s poorest rural communities to escape energy poverty and its complex outcomes by providing them with an innovative bioethanol micro-distillery with which they can produce their own fuel (ethanol 95ºGL up to 99,5ºGL).Its continuous system is very efficient and producing from 1,000 to 10,000 liters per day of sustainable ethanol from multiple locally grown crops. The fuel can be safely used for clean cooking, powering engines, lighting, etc.
How does your innovation work?
Green's EMD can produce Ethanol from a series of different feedstocks, using locally grown crops as source material and respecting the surrounding environment. Green’s process is extremely energy-efficient. By employing an innovative technology of cold enzymes, the entire process operates at the optimal level of 32º, saving tons of burning fuel daily and assuring a positive net energy balance. The ethanol produced from the EMD can be safely used for generating electricity, power vehicles and light up clean cook stoves, contributing to the shift towards a clean energy mix. Thus, the EMD operates in a complete self-sufficient mode. A small amount of the ethanol produced is used to fuel the Ethanol Power Generator, providing the required electricity for keeping the machinery working continuously. The installation of an EMD not only employs dozens of people directly in daily operations but also fosters a network of indirect job posts. Local farmers increase their productivity as new constant demand is generated by the EMD. At the same time, the co-products generated in the process of producing bioethanol are extremely rich in nutrients and can be used as fertilizer for crops and also as complementary feedstock, boosting agricultural productivity and closing the loop cycle of Social Bioethanol. It is estimated that one Green Ethanol Micro Distillery designed to produce 2.500 liters of bioethanol per day employs around 300 farmers in the production chain. It provides clean cooking fuel for 2.000 families or can be used to generate 5,000 kWh of electrical power, replacing polluting fossil fuels like diesel and charcoal. Moreover, using the ethanol produced in Green’s EMD for cooking avoids the deforestation of 10 tons of wood per day, saving up to 2.500 trees and 8.000 tons of CO2 each year.

Stage 6: Sustained Scale

A core concern of Green is the development of local expertise. Implementing our projects goes well beyond merely installing the machinery. During the whole process of implementation, our team trains local personnel on how to better operate the Ethanol Micro-Distillery (EMD), building local capacity and increasing the autonomy of our customers.
