Problem

Our innovation addresses the problems that arise from the use of two-stroke motorcycle-sidecar ("tricycles" in the Philippines) as a means of public passenger transportation. The drivers that drive these vehicles earn less than $5/day and take those home to their families of 5. Their makeshift vehicles are unsafe for both the riding public and the drivers themselves. The 3.5M tricycles in the Philippines produce more than 100M tons of GHG per year.

Solution

Our e-trike ecosystem eliminates the air pollution produced by their vehicles, increases driver revenue by allowing the drivers to carry more passengers, and increases passenger and driver safety and comfortability through it's design. The ecosystem includes fast charging and hot-swapping to maximize their operating hours and further increase revenue. We are also partnered with a local bank to finance all of our buyers 100% to give the drivers the means to switch without down-payment.

We believe that this can be a solution not just in developing countries but also in the advanced countries as a first-and-last mile solution.

We are partnered with a local bank to finance all our buyers 100% to ensure affordability. We also design and assemble our battery packs in-house so we can maintain our batteries and ensure that we get the most out of their useful life to ensure maximum sustainability for the drivers.

Planned Goals and Milestones

As we continue to scale, we will bring our prices down to allow our vehicles to be even more affordable and further increase their profit. We are also developing our own ride-sharing app to add an additional source of revenue for our drivers on top of that from the regular thoroughfare. As we get funding, we will also transition our charging stations to pure renewable energy so that we can ensure that our vehicles are using 100% renewable energy sourced power.

The Team Behind the Innovation

The company is headed by Gerard and Edelweiss Villoria, a husband and wife tandem who conceptualized the e-trikes in 2008. Since then they have served as consultants for both the Asian Development Bank and Price-Waterhouse-Cooper. They designed the e-trike ecosystem together in 2013 with the help of their son, Gabby Villoria, who serves as their COO and CTO. Gabby (23) designed the technical specs of their vehicles, batteries, and charging systems that are used in their latest models.
