FishCom Gambia is a start up fish storage and distribution business in The Gambia West Africa. Due to lack of proper storage and distribution facilities as well as fish distribution bottlenecks in the country, lot of fresh fish got wasted before reaching to its final consumers, while the vast majority of the people in the country, especially those in the rural communities don’t have enough and easy access for their daily basic survival. The business aims to supply fresh fish to each and every Gambian all year round, thereby reducing the problems of fish distribution bottleneck in the country and fish wastage at the fish landing sites, improve the food diet of the people, create employment and contribute immensely to economic development of The Gambia, thereby alleviating poverty and hunger. This objectives will be achieved through the construction of cold stores at the fish landing sites and major provincial towns and villages across the Gambia, the use of a network of refrigerated delivery vans and motor cycles distributors to reach out to the local consumers. The business in the near future will enter the export market supplying fish to the regional and international markets. Our regional centers and distribution outlets will be headed, managed and run by women as area and regional distributors, responsible for the daily fish distribution at each region in the Gambia to improve their daily income and participation in the society to help reduce their vulnerability.

Problem

FishCom Gambia aims to solve the following Problems: 1. Fish distribution bottleneck in The Gambia. 2. Waste of fish resources in one part of the country and scarcity in another(i.e rural communities) , due to improper storage and distribution facilities and poverty (people are not able to afford proper facilities). 3. Malnutrition, food insecurity and hunger in the country. 4. Unemployment, poverty and Gender Base Violence, due to lack of opportunities especially for women in poor communities.

FishCom aims to Provide the following solutions: 1. Reduce the problems of fish distribution bottleneck and waste of fish resources In the country through the use of cold storage and distribution facilities as well as market reach to the regions. 2. Improve the food diet and livelihood of people by creating distribution outlets. 3. Create more jobs for women and youths responsible. 4. Contribute to food security, sufficiency and zero hunger through daily supplies. 5. Promote economic growth.

Rural Poor communities in The Gambia and its surrounding border villages, who are most vulnerable and affected by the problems of fish distribution bottleneck in the country, and fish is needed by every single household in The Gambia on a daily basis for basic survival and serves as a major source of protein in the diet of the people. 2. Mission and Vision

To be one of the most effective and efficient fish supplier to all the regions of The Gambia, especially the rural poor communities, providing fresh fish to the door step of every Gambian all year around , thereby improve the food diet and livelihood of people, reduce wastage of fish, create employment opportunities especially for women and youths and contribute to the Global effort to end poverty and hunger, by creating cold storage and distribution facilities throughout the country

Competitive Advantage

FishComs Advantage over its competitors are as follows : 1. We are bigger in scale than most competitors who are mainly small artisanal ( small scale ) fish vendors. 2. Easier access to supply due to advantageous location and network of fish distributors. 3. We have knowledge of the local market than most competitors 4 We have a well guided business plan which most others don’t have. 5. We are supported with highly trained and dedicated work force. 6. Easier access to market / customers due to our good transport facilities to move fish to those in need. 7. We have the support and backing of ministry of trade regional integration and employment through Gambia Growth and Competitiveness project who provided initial seed money of USD 10,000. 8. Easier access to finance due to more credible business plan (Award winning business plan).
