Innovation Description

KickStart has developed two financing mechanisms to increase access to their income-generating, small-scale irrigation pumps. The first, “Mobile Layaway,” enables a farmer to easily save up to purchase a pump by making small payments through a mobile phone through the M-Pesa platform. The second, “Rent-to-Own,” enables farmers to receive a pump after just an initial down payment, put the pump to use immediately and make regular rental payments toward pump ownership.
