Stage 3: Proof of Concept
Kitkit School is currently available in English and Kiswahili, and the Kiswahili version is being trialled in a few schools in Tanzania. Kitkit School will also be entered into the Global Learning XPRIZE Competition in January 2017. We continue to work on adding quality content to the application, and open to expanding to other languages.
We are currently testing our product in an urban and rural setting in under-resourced communities in Tanzania.
We have trialed our application in Tanzania and Kenya, and initial findings have shown that children are highly engaged by the product. In both impoverished rural settings and urban settings, children are able to teach themselves and others how to use the application and play the game.

Mission and Vision
Through their use of Kitkit School, we hope to improve children's learning outcomes in foundations areas within literacy and numeracy, in both formal and non-formal educational environments. We hope children, as well as guardians and educators, will strengthen their ability to read, write and count, thus contributing to global efforts to reduce illiteracy and innumeracy.
Kitkit School is a tablet-based open-source application that supports children to learn and practice reading, writing and counting indepdently. Globally, millions of children are without access to education or quality education. Kitkit School aims to provide children with the fundamentals of literacy and numeracy through a comprehensive game-based learning platform that motivates and engages their independent learning. It is currently available in English and Swahili.
How does your innovation work?
Kitkit School is an application that can be downloaded into a variety of android devices, and presented to children for their independent exploration and learning. As an open-source product, it can be adapted by other developers, and the content easily changed for use in other languages and other environments.
Kitkit School has been carefully designed to support all children's independent learning, including those in constrained learning environments, and those that might have learning and developmental difficulities. It is designed so that all children can use it independently, regardless of their initial capacity. It is a globally minded product that can be easily adapted for use in other languages and contexts.
Planned Goals and Milestones
Kitkit School is currently available in English and Kiswahili. We are looking to expand its use in English and Kiswahili speaking environments through enhanced and increased partnerships. In the longer term, we will continue to develop the product in other languages through partnerships as well, and expand its use in other contexts.
Through an enhanced and increased network of partners, we look forward to continuing to expand Kitkit School's use in English and Kiswahili speaking contexts, and to making the product available in more languages and for more contexts.
