Ghana generates 1.7 million tons of plastic waste per year with less than 2% of it recycled. The government speds $219 million per year on collection, recovery and dumping as well as maintenance of traditional landfills in the country with no effective recycling infrastructures. The low recycling rate leads to plastic waste ending up in water bodies, streets and thereby causes health complications.
COliba is solving a simple problem; which is to increase the recycling rate in Ghana from the current 2%. Coliba does this through the introduction of digital recycling platform that puts recycling services at the center of users as well as setting up recycling and recovery centers for plastic waste.
Our services are designed with low income households in mind through the use of SME and USSD for users of non smart phones as well as high income households who have smart phones. Our serves also serve waste pickers as waste pickers are integrated in the recovery process . Households and users get incentives for recycling of their plastic waste.
Mission and Vision
The vision is to becomes Africa's leading innovative recycling company focused on plastic recycling.
The mission is to innovatively address plastic pollution challenges in Africa using the circular economy model .
