A unique innovation under SDG4 is aimed at having outstanding /well-grounded IT Teenagers to train their peers in Coding.. Teenagers tend to understand themselves. Hence having their peers train them is expected to be an inspiration.

This project aims at having outstanding carefully selected Teenagers and Young Adolescents of ages 16- 21 who can code train teenagers in streams of workshops at weekends and during the summer holidays. This project aims at having outstanding carefully selected Teenagers and Young Adolescents of ages 16- 21 who can code train teenagers in streams of workshops at weekends and during the summer holidays. We intend to start with 10-15 students each in 3 locations Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland and Abuja. We already have a curriculum which would start with introducing participants to computers and technology. We have also included Leadership training sessions in the curriculum. Again these workshops will be handled by older teenagers who have taken roles of leadership while in schools such as Senior Prefects, Hostel Heads, Class Heads or Prefects etc They will also have time to go for excursions and time out to learn Pizza making and sports in an informal setting

Stage 4: Transition to Scale

We had our coding test run which was an online training session with kids in 2017 under the supervision of an adult and it worked well. Award-winning Teenagers teaching Coding and Leadership Skills could be interesting. A way to catch them young!

Solution

Target Beneficiaries

Ages 14years - 20years

Mission and Vision

The long term Vision is to have Nigerian children use coding programming languages to solve societal problems There will be an initial engagement of Teenagers in Lagos and Abuja at 3 different locations (2 in Lagos and 1 in Abuja) through quarterly in-person training at Weekends Holidays for different participants with a follow-up on online platform afterwards. We also hope to partner with leading Technology organizations in having our participants on their fellowship programmes or as applicable

Competitive Advantage

The advantage of this innovation is that the training will be handled by Teenagers under the supervision of adults. It is the Unique Selling Point of the programme. From our experience Teenagers understand themselves and get inspired seeing other teenagers impacting lives of others. Hence appreciating that their talents will be recognised and projected to technology focused organization will give the project an edge over the conventional training organizations and projects

Planned Goals and Milestones

We are looking forward to starting fully in July 2019 with both fee-paying participants and participants who would be sponsored from funding received at a ratio of 50:50, or 40:60 with more of the sponsored participants who are expected to be the less privileged but intelligent students. There would be 3 centres. 2 in Lagos and 1 in Abuja. Each centre would follow the training guidelines and duration as would be given by Active Projectile Ltd
