Baobab+ sells affordable solar products through its retail stores and the banking network of its parent company, Microcred. This extensive network makes it possible to reach customers in rural areas and those who may not have access to mobile money. To make its solar products affordable, it offers a pay-as-you-go option supported by a microfinance network tailored to low-income customers. Baobab+ also uses customers’ payment histories to demonstrate their eligibility for additional financial services like loans, which can be used to purchase larger solar home systems. The company is now testing and expanding its distribution model with support from SOGE.
