By assembling proven techniques that are modular and are getting cheaper : solar panels, desalination units and drip irrigation, Agrodelsol desalinates sea water and produces irrigation water, using renewable resources : zero carbon agriculture

Competitive Advantage

The economic fundamentals of this venture are robust: -low prices for solar panels -low prices for desalination units -both solar panels and desalination units are modular -"zero-carbon" agricultural production, which enable sales to benefit from premium prices if compared to similar but not zero-carbon product -possibility of obtaining carbon credits All the above provides "Irrigation as a Service" and there is no competition in greenfield desalination/desert transformation in the selected areas yet. Numerous agribusiness companies already use solar and/or desalination units, but as an internal asset. In some instances, they use those components to dry up underground aquifers, without consideration of the sustainability of usch practices. The "IaaS" approach is not there (yet). Agrodelsol believes this approach is achievable and has positive economic, social and environmental benefits.

The Team Behind the Innovation

The team is a combination of a large experience in the energy and water sector (30 yrs+) and local knowledge of Chile and Peru. The team motivation is to proof that concrete contributions to achieving the SDGs and the Paris Agreement goals are multiple : multi-stakeholder solutions driven by the public sector, large scale solutions driven by private sector and also small-scale, grassroot solutions. Agrodelsol corresponds to the grassroot category of solutions and has the intention to scale-up.
