How does your innovation work?
254SOS hopes to manage the many resources around the country including medical hospitals, fire stations and fire engines, National police resources and many other more resources that can be used in the time of a crisis. 254SOS will receive data inputs from social media, SMS, phone calls though a call center and mobile applications. Social media is a key component of this process because most Kenyans are now connected to the internet and there has been a lot of incidents that have been raised on facebook and twitter as a way of activism. In the recent past there have been incidents that Kenyan politicians have been charged for incitement. This means that social media has now been used as a source of evidence and it’s admissible in court. SMS, phone calls and an emergency application will be used to collect data from the public. After the incidents have been collected, there will be an analyst assign appropriate help to that particular incidents. This is going to be easy now that there is a devolved system of government and each county is in the process of buying new machinery to support the various department. In this case, most counties are buying ambulances, fire engines and equipping the hospitals. Thus, after the appropriate help has been assigned to the people in-charge of that help will receive an SOS SMS showing where, what, when, how long ago the incident occurred. Just in-case the help assigned is not available, we can get from the pool of resources the next possible help as fast as possible. Ultimately the data acquired will be used to generate security reports for different stake holders. The national governments can have strategic meetings around this report. The county governments can know which additional resources they should add, citizens can sign up for briefs to enhance their knowledge on what is happening around them.
