Improved Regional Fisheries in Western Africa

Offered by European Commission

Most of the significant West African fisheries can be characterised as either targeting shared fish stocks or fisheries of common interest, and these can only be managed effectively through regional cooperation. The interventions foreseen under the new regional fisheries programme funded by the EU (PESCAO) will therefore seek to promote a regional approach to fisheries management. The global objective of the PESCAO Programme is to enhance the contribution of fisheries resources to sustainable development, food security and poverty alleviation in West Africa.
