Empowered Women, Peaceful Communities: Preventing Violent Extremism in Asia

UN Women Philipines seeks to implement a one-year program to support: (1) building resilience and promoting social cohesion in communities at risk of radicalization, focusing on vulnerable populations including female migrants;(2) strengthening women’s groups and networks working on social cohesion and deradicalization building their capacity to influence the development of gender-sensitive approaches to national policies and strategies to preventing and countering terrorism and violent extremism; (3) enhancing the evidence base and understanding on the gender specific push and pull factors that underpin decisions to join terrorist and violent extremist groups and developing evidence based intervention to encourage women to play or can potentially play in preventing violent extremism off and online; (4) sharing knowledge and promoting cooperation among Muslim-majority countries and contexts of the South-East Asia and South Asia (regional focused).
