EIT Food COVID-19 Bridge Fund - Call for applications

Startups with high impact and growth potential have been hit hard by the COVID-19 crisis. Many innovation activities needed for ventures to bring their solution to market are being delayed and disrupted. Customer adoption has slowed down. Moreover, raising capital from external investors proves more challenging.

The aim of the EIT Food COVID-19 Bridge Fund is to provide targeted support to high impact and growth potential start-ups and scale-ups during the crisis and adapt/accelerate to post crisis economic reality. With the bridge funding they will be able to continue their critical activities, extend their runway and prepare effectively for raising follow-on funding.

Funding from the EIT Food COVID-19 Bridge Fund is open to innovative startups and scaleups in the agri-food industry, based in a Member State of the EU or Horizon2020-associated country. Your venture experiences disruption of key activities and fundraising efforts due to COVID-19 and needs to adapt accordingly. Your venture is active in one of the six focus areas of EIT Food:

  • o Alternative proteins
  • o Sustainable agriculture
  • o Targeted nutrition
  • o Sustainable aquaculture
  • o Digital transformation of traceability
  • o Circular food systems


Other Requirements

Planned Usage of Funds

The funding can exclusively be spent on costs that:

  • • Are correctly spent in line with the Proposal Aims (see article 1.2);
  • • Are spent within the Funding Period, no later than December 31st, 2020;
  • • Are directly linked to clear activities required to achieve the deliverables outlined in the project plan by the applicant, and later approved by EIT Food;
  • • Identifiable and verifiable during final reporting and upon audit by EIT;
  • • That comply with the applicable national law on taxes, labour and social security;
  • • That are reasonable, justified and must comply with the principle of sound financial management; in particular regarding economy and efficiency.
