Call for Pre-proposals - AAV Wild Bird Health Grant

Pre-proposals for research projects addressing wild bird health are now being accepted for consideration for funding by the Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV). Projects of interest include but are not limited to epidemiology of disease in wild populations, ecotoxicology, diagnostic testing and treatment of wild birds, and conservation medicine.

Specific Requirements and Limitations
No more than three (3) pre-proposals may be submitted per researcher.
For pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies, drugs under investigation must be fully approved for use in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
For prospective live bird research studies involving anesthesia or invasive surgery or surgery that causes a permanent change in the animal, a doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM or equivalent) must be listed as the principal investigator or co-investigator.

Other Requirements

Planned Usage of Funds
Costs such as travel expenses, publication costs, investigator or assistant salaries, major equipment purchases, and overhead shall not be funded by the AAV.
Reporting Requirements
Principal investigator must also submit the AAV Research Project Final Report upon completion of the project.
